South Carolina kept its monstrous week of recruiting success rolling right along on Sunday night. Four-star JUCO offensive tackle Paris Palmer of Lackawanna Community College in Scranton, Pa. announced his commitment to the Gamecocks' 2015 class, becoming the third prospect in the past seven days to publicly declare his intention to sign with the Gamecocks.
It feels good to say I finally have a home! I just officially committed to The University of South Carolina Gamecocks!!! #WeCocky!!
— Paris Palmer (@C_R_E_A_M_75) March 23, 2014
The massive 6'8, 305-pound lineman chose South Carolina over offers from Ohio State, Baylor, Miami, Missouri and Penn State. The Gamecocks extended a scholarship offer to Palmer on March 3, just a few days after Penn State and Ohio State became the first major programs to offer. Palmer is the No. 2 JUCO offensive tackle an the No. 10 overall JUCO prospect according to the 247Sports Composite index.
South Carolina will be parting ways with starting left tackle Corey Robinson after the senior exhausts his eligibility following the 2014 season, and rising junior right tackle Brandon Shell could elect to forego his final year of eligibility to enter the 2015 NFL Draft. As such, Palmer could have a chance to come in and contribute right away, especially considering that most of the players listed behind Robinson and Shell on the offensive tackle depth chart (Mike Matulis, Cody Gibson, e.g.) could very well end up being moved to guard.
Palmer's commitment moves the Gamecocks up two spots to No. 11 in 247Sports' Composite recruiting team ranking.
If South Carolina is able to hold off other teams from getting him to flip his commitment, it's going to be a treat to see a man with his reported size suiting up in a Gamecock uniform. After all, if he really is a Paris palmer, he must be pretty big. Know what I mean?
