Cody Gibson
Senior Offensive Tackle
6’7", 288 lbs.
Tallahassee, Florida

Recruitment:
3 stars, 64th overall offensive tackle in 2010 class
Other offers: Illinois, East Carolina, Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland

College Career:
To give you an idea of how long Gibson's been around, his first game with the Gamecocks was also Marcus Lattimore's first game. But that's all the action Gibson saw in his true freshman season, and in fact an injury he sustained in fall practice led to his successfully petitioning for a medical redshirt. Gibson came on strong in 2011, appearing in 10 contests and starting four. He's appeared in 19 games over the past two seasons, but has seen his share of injuries, one of which sidelined him for a stretch of the 2013 season. Gibson has contributed steadily in a special teams capacity.

2014 Outlook:
There won't be much deliberation as to who will be bookending the offensive line—Brandon Shell and Corey Robinson are potentially as special a tackle tandem as you'll find—but Gibson will provide some experienced depth when the starters need a breath, and in the event of injury it's a luxury to have an experienced senior at the ready. He's penciled in as Shell's backup at right tackle, and provided he stays healthy, should see the field consistently in his final season in Columbia.

Trivia:
Quality social media presence. A master of the brief tweet:

Ron Aiken’s game-winning lede:

"To Cody Gibson, 'pancake block' is more than the name he's given to the stretch of Assembly St. where IHOP is or a carefully architected breakfast item consisting of a cube of pure Bisquick; it's also a field maneuver for which he's become known."
