South Carolina Gamecocks football 2014 roster preview: No. 33, David Williams

RS frosh back looks to break into RB rotation.

David Williams
RS Freshman runningback
6'1'' / 214 lbs
Philadelphia, PA

Recruitment:
consensus four-star prospect, sixth-ranked APB in nation

Other major offers: among others, Michigan St., Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio St., Penn St., Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin

College Career:
Although the coaches briefly toyed with burning his redshirt midseason while Brandon Wilds was injured, Williams redshirted his true freshman season in 2013.

2014 Outlook:
Outside the transfer of Kendric Salley, South Carolina's depth chart at runningback remains unchanged heading into 2014, with Mike Davis the starter, Brandon Wilds slated to get plenty of carries as Davis's backup, and Shon Carson still around to step in when needed. Williams, though, is good enough to challenge for playing time even among this group of talented, experienced upperclassmen. Gamecocks fans got a glimpse of his rare blend of speed and power during the Garnet and Black Game. At the very least, don't be surprised if he surpasses Carson as the third back or if the coaches have a special package to utilize Williams's potential as a home-run threat.

Trivia:
Williams is from Philly and loves to represent his home city on Twitter.
