After a tight game against Missouri in its last outing, South Carolina had no trouble in its trip to Gainesville. Carolina quickly established a double-digit lead and was up by 35 at one point in the second half before coasting to a 77-42 victory.
The Gamecocks' defensive box score tells an impressive story. Carolina held Florida to 27.1% from the field, 1-15 for 6.7% from downtown, and 3-4 from the charity stripe. Florida couldn't get good looks and it couldn't get to the free-throw line. That's a recipe for success, folks. The Gamecocks have now held 17 of 18 opponents to less than 40% shooting.
After the Gamecocks struggled to handle Missouri's post defense in their last contest, they had no such trouble against the Gators. Carolina scored 46 points in the paint in this game. The Gamecocks also scored 14 points off fast breaks in a game where great defense created lots of transition opportunities.
The Gamecocks will get a better test when they take on Texas A&M a week from today.
