The Gamecocks are coming off of a difficult week after dropping a game to Winthrop and a series to Missouri. However the team bounced back on Sunday to avoid the sweep and will try to get back on track against Coastal Carolina tonight before hosting Georgia this weekend.
The Gamecocks own a 13-5 all-time record against the Chanticleers. South Carolina has won five straight against Coastal Carolina, including two Super Regional victories in 2010 on the way to the CWS title.
The Chanticleers are 17-6 on the year and 3-0 in the Big South after sweeping UNC Asheville last weekend. They have several nice wins and have beaten all four ACC teams that they've faced this season (Georgia Tech, NC State, UNC and Clemson). The 13-2 victory over the Tarheels and the 9-5 victory over the Tigers are both part of the eight game win streak that Coastal Carolina is currently on.
South Carolina | Coastal Carolina | |
Batting Average | .266 | .267 |
On-Base % | .358 | .375 |
Slugging % | .382 | .446 |
ERA | 2.40 | 3.91 |
Strikeout-to-Walk Ratio | 2.65 | 2.60 |
Fielding % | .969 | .969 |
The Chanticleers present another strong midweek threat for the Gamecocks, particularly since this is a road game. Coastal Carolina has put together some very nice offensive games and they have 29 home runs so far this year (compared to 18 for the Gamecocks). South Carolina will need a good pitching performance and will likely need to get the bats going to avoid dropping a midweek contest for the second straight week.
The Gamecocks will send sophomore lefty Josh Reagan to the mound against the Chanticleers. He has a 3.15 ERA with 10 strikeouts and 4 walks this season. The starter for Coastal will be freshman lefty Shane Sawczak. His ERA is 5.59 with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks.
