The Gamecocks are hosting their second junior day of the year and have gained commitments from two of their high priority targets. Three star Bryan Edwards has been considered a South Carolina lean for a long time and speculation was that he would commit while on his visit. The Conway, S.C product is considered a three star by 247Sports Composite and is a top 10 prospect from South Carolina. Edwards stands at 6-3 and 208 pounds, making him a big receiver who could get even bigger during his senior year. He joins fellow wide receiver prospect Kyle Davis, and likely the the Gamecocks will only take one, possibly two more receivers. Some possible targets are fellow S.C native Divine Deablo and N.J prospect Brad Hawkins. Edwards selected the Gamecocks over offers from the Georgia Bulldogs, Clemson Tigers and the Florida Gators. Steve Spurrier Jr. is his primary recruiter.
The second prospect to commit to the Gamecocks is four star running back CJ Freeman. Freeman has also been considered a USC lean in recent months and decided to pull the trigger today. The North Carolina prospect is currently considered an all-purpose back and stands at 5-11 and 180 pounds. Freeman has a similar build to 2015 signee AJ Turner. Freeman selected the Gamecocks over offers from the Virginia Tech Hokies and the West Virginia Mountaineers among others. Shawn Elliot and Everette Sands are his recruiters from USC.
With Edwards and Freeman both committing, the only prospect left on commit watch this weekend is four star defensive end/ offensive lineman Javon Kinlaw.
WIth these two commitments the Gamecocks have climbed the 247Sports rankings and are currently ranked 21st.
Commitment profiles for both (possibly three) commits will be coming soon. Stay tuned to GarnetandBlackAttack for your recruiting coverage.
