The Final Cockdown: #79 Trey Derouen

Trey Dereouen begins his first active season with the Gamecocks looking to make some noise.

Rivals

Recruitment

Originally committed to Mississippi St., Derouen re-opened his recruitment in December of 2014. He received attention from a bevy of major programs scattered around the southeast before and after his initial commitment. He received the most attention from South Carolina, Florida and Louisville.

Per 247Sports, Derouen was considered a three star prospect, the 91st best player from Georgia and the 55th best offensive guard in the class 0f 2015.

College Career

Redshirted his true freshman season and did not participate in this year’s spring ball while recovering from a knee injury.

2016 Outlook

Derouen wasn’t listed on the first or second string post-spring depth chart, but he is expected to compete for playing time upfront for the Gamecocks this year. After sophomore Zack Bailey earned himself some experience at guard and center last season, he seems penciled in to start at one of the guard spots. The opened door for Derouen may come where Cody Helms, the former Waker Forest Demon Deacon, is slotted in now.

Injuries have irritated the South Carolina o-line the past couple of seasons, so if that trend continues, Derouen could play a pivotal role on a re-configured line.
