The Final Cockdown: #32, Rod Talley

The redshirt junior might be in line for an increased role in 2016.

Running Back

Recruitment

Talley wasn’t heavily recruited by FBS programs, but started his college career at FCS Gardner-Webb, where as a freshman he was the team’s second leading rusher. After transferring to South Carolina in January 2014, he walked onto the football team, then was awarded a scholarship before the 2015 season.

College Career

Talley ran for 276 yards and three touchdowns in his lone season with the Runnin’ Bulldogs in 2013. Last season, his first as a Gamecocks scholarship player, he saw very limited action, only carring the ball a pair of times.

2016 Outlook

Even though Talley is on scholarship now, he may be only a 3rd/4th string/emergency back in case David Williams and AJ Turner go down. He might turn out to be an option off the bench for Kurt Roper’s offensive gameplan, though, depending on his fall camp performance, and I wonder if he could be used in short-yardage/goal line scenarios to spell the guys in front of him given his size and skillset.
