Recruitment
Boyd’s path to Columbia is a little winding. After heading to College of the Desert in 2013, he would then transfer to Chaffey College in his hometown of Rancho Cucamonga. He was then offered by Arizona, Georgia State, New Mexico State, Texas State, Utah and Washington State before deciding on the Gamecocks in January of last year.
College Career
Boyd redshirted with the Gamecocks last fall. He put up a strong stat line at Chaffey - 80 tackles, 10 passes defended, and two picks. Also notable: his four blocked kicks, which make us think he might be playing a little close to the line on the opposition’s field goal chances this year.
2016 Outlook
The previous staff looks to have had some plans for Boyd when they redshirted him last season. However, with a new coaching regime in place, along with the safeties being coached directly by Will Muschamp, we’ll have to see where Boyd figures into the equation despite dropping off the depth chart after spring camp.
