Odds: Gamecocks face rival Tigers as double-digit underdogs

The gap between South Carolina and Clemson may be a little closer than it was, but Vegas still thinks it’s pretty big.

After a blessedly stress- and injury-free 31-10 win over Wofford, the South Carolina Gamecocks will face the rival Clemson Tigers as 14-point underdogs in their home finale.

The line, which opened as high as Clemson by 16 in some books, has seen a little movement in favor of South Carolina. The current projected score stands at Tigers 36, Gamecocks 23.

Clemson is coming off its own big victory over an in-state FCS foe, smoking The Citadel 61-3. The 10-1 Tigers, who have looked a little mortal in the post-Deshaun Watson era and suffered a bad loss to Syracuse, nonetheless repeated as ACC Atlantic division champions behind another elite defense and skill players like Deon Cain and Travis Etienne. Clemson will face Miami in a top-four showdown with the conference title and a bid to the College Football Playoff on the line. But first, they’ll have to tangle with the upset-minded Gamecocks.

The over/under is set at 46.5. South Carolina is 7-3-1 against the spread this season, while Clemson is 6-4-1.
