We’re close to the opener against NC State and to wrap up the Final Cockdown we’re looking down a list of potential impact defensive backs for South Carolina this season:

Chris Lammons + Jamarcus King | MJ Webb | DJ Smith | Steven Montac | Rashad Fenton| Jamyest Williams | Kaleb Chalmers | Tavyn Jackson | Keisean Nixon | Antoine Wilder + Chris Smith | Zay Brown + Javon Charleston | Jaylin Dickerson | Griffin Gentry | Hassan Belton

#3 Keisean Nixon

Junior / 5’10” / 192 / Paramont, CA / Western Arizona College

Not only is Keisean a rare Californian to play for the Gamecocks, he has a fan in rap legend Snoop Dogg. Snoop tweeted a picture of the Cali native, who played in his Snoop Youth Football League growing up, on August 23rd:

Keisean Nixon was a late arrival on campus, and he is going to be a very welcomed presence. South Carolina coaches have made it known that the Gamecocks are thin in the secondary. With freshman Jaylin Dickerson going down recently, Nixon is probably going to get a lot more snaps.

Head coach Will Muschamp has mentioned that while Nixon might see some time at corner, his primary role will be at the nickel and safety slots. With five interceptions last year at Arizona Western, Keisean goes right along with the rest of the DBs in their ability to pick the ball off. Hopefully, the JUCO transfer will be a good depth player this year for Carolina.

2016 Stats: 36 tackles & five INTs at Arizona Western

Recruitment: A very high sought after JUCO product, Keisean had offers from multiple Power Five schools such as Washington, Mississippi State, Louisville, and others. Nixon chose the Gamecocks and decided to move to the East Coast.

Up Next: Antione Wilder & Chris Smith are up next for the Final Cockdown.
