Last game
The Gamecocks shook off an embarrassing 20-point defeat to Wofford, bouncing back against another in-state opponent with an 85-79 win over Coastal Carolina. As the score would indicate, though, it was another tough out, with the Gamecocks never quite able to gain enough comfortable separation from the Chanticleers. But South Carolina managed to lock down the victory, thanks in part to a strong 25-of-33 performance from the free-throw line.
Freshman wing A.J. Lawson continued his impressive play with a career-high and game-high 25 points. Junior guard Hassani Gravett, who has been huge for South Carolina coming off the bench, nearly matched him with 23 points of his own, featuring a 4-of-7 performance from 3.
What to watch for
The Cowboys have struggled out of the gate, currently sitting at 2-6 and on a two-game losing streak; their only victories this season have come against 1-1 Grambling State and 2-3 Richmond. Nonetheless, four players are averaging double figures for Wyoming: Justin James (24.9), Hunter Maldonado (15.2), Hunter Thompson (13.3) and Jake Hendricks (11). It’d be nice for the Gamecocks to pick up some momentum here before heading to Ann Arbor for a battle with No. 5 Michigan on Saturday.
