After a successful road trip against Vanderbilt, the South Carolina Gamecocks are traveling again, this week to Lexington, Ky. Former and oft-injured Akeem Auguste is here to guide you through the final injury report, which is mercifully short and frankly doesn’t contain anything we didn’t already know. (I am extremely happy to be writing those words in this space.)
Zero Augustes - Full go!
One Augustes - Should play, but won’t start
Two Augustes - Game-time decision
Three Augustes - Questionable
Four Augustes - Unlikely
Five Augustes - Out
D.J. Wonnum — Five Augustes
The junior defensive lineman continues to be on the shelf with a high ankle sprain he suffered in the season opener. Initially, the prognosis was about a month, but coach Will Muschamp indicated he won’t return until after the Oct. 20 bye week. It’s tough to be without a star like Wonnum for so long, but ankle injuries are notoriously difficult to rehab, and the staff understandably wants to be careful.
OrTre Smith — Five Augustes
Earlier this week, Muschamp revealed that the sophomore receiver has been dealing with tremendous knee pain from a genetic condition that can only be fixed with surgery. This will end Smith’s season, which is a bit of a blow to the offense — he’s currently the fourth-leading receiver. However, Smith is expected to have a full recovery and be ready to go by the spring, so this procedure will be a boon for the rest of his career.
