South Carolina to add defensive line coach John Scott Jr. to staff

The Gamecocks have made another coaching move.

According to GamecockCentral and a report in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the South Carolina Gamecocks have found their next defensive line coach in current Razorbacks assistant John Scott Jr.

Scott will replace Lance Thompson, although the program has not yet announced Thompson’s departure.

Scott, who hails from Greer and played his college ball at Western Carolina, has been at Arkansas for the past two years under both former head coach Bret Bielema and new coach Chad Morris. Prior to working with the Hawgs, Scott was in the NFL with the New York Jets, first in a defensive quality control role and then receiving a promotion to assistant defensive line coach.

Prior to his time in the pros, Scott’s career included stops at Texas Tech, Georgia Southern, Missouri State, Norfolk State, and Western Carolina.

It’s the second coaching move of the offseason for South Carolina, which also added running backs coach Thomas Brown after letting go of tight ends coach Pat Washington (and moving previous running backs coach Bobby Bentley into that post).
