The Gamecocks got back to their winning ways when they came out on top in yet another thriller, this time outlasting No. 16 Auburn 80-77 when Felipe Haase’s 3-pointer and Chris Silva’s explosive 32-point, 14-rebound night provided the difference. South Carolina twice held double-digit leads over the Tigers, but their hot-shooting guards never let the Gamecocks relax. Fortunately, Silva absolutely dominated in the post, shooting 11-of-12 from the field, and made 10 of his 11 free throws, too. Hassani Gravett, who’s been Mr. Reliable this season, added 13 points and shot 50 percent from 3-point land.
What to watch for
South Carolina travels to Stillwater, Okla., to face the Cowboys in this year’s edition of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Oklahoma State is led by former Gamecock standout and assistant Mike Boynton, which adds a layer of intrigue to this matchup. The Cowboys, currently on a three-game losing streak, have had an up-and-down season so far, though they notched a win against LSU. Oklahoma State is paced by forward Cameron McGriff, who averages 13.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, while Lindy Waters (12.2) and Thomas Dziagwa (10.1) are also in double figures (and Dziagwa has made 43 percent of his 3-pointers).
