Gamecocks come in at No. 18 in D1Baseball’s preseason Top 25 poll

After a pandemic-shortened season in 2020, there’s some optimism surrounding South Carolina baseball this year

The Big Spur

The Gamecocks only got to play 16 games in 2020 before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they were off to a 12-4 start with a couple of series sweeps and things seemed like they might be looking up after a rough couple of seasons. As South Carolina prepares to start a new season this spring, D1baseball has the team ranked at No. 18 in their preseason Top 25 poll.

Eight other SEC teams were ranked in the poll, including Florida (No. 1), Vanderbilt (No. 4), Ole Miss (No. 6), Mississippi State (No. 7), Arkansas (No. 8), LSU (No. 12), Tennessee (No. 19), and Auburn (No. 23).

The Gamecocks also ranked No. 21 on Collegiate Baseball’s preseason Fab 50 poll, which was released in December.

South Carolina’s 2021 baseball schedule has not yet been announced.
