Gamecocks in the NFL: Week 1

Welcome back to Gamecocks in the NFL, where we check in with South Carolina alums who did go pro in sports. Deebo Samuel leads off this week’s highlights:

Deebo Samuel, WR, 49ers: The former USC star had himself a day reminiscent of his time in Garnet and Black, racking up 189 yards on nine receptions and a touchdown. You love to see it.

Ryan Succop, K, Buccaneers: Succop also had a vintage Carolina performance, nailing all four of his extra point attempts and drilling the game-winning field goal for Tampa Bay, a 36-yarder.

Mike Davis, RB, Falcons: Davis had 15 carries for 49 yards, good for second on the team, along with three receptions for 23 yards, in his debut for his hometown Falcons.

Hayden Hurst, TE, Falcons: Hurst had a quiet day for Atlanta with four receptions for 28 yards.

Joseph Charlton, P, Panthers: Charlton had a busy day, punting six times for 225 yards with an average of 37.5, a long of 54, and two punts landing inside the 20.

Jaycee Horn, CB, Panthers: Horn had three tackles, two solo, in his debut for Carolina.

Damiere Byrd, WR, Bears: Byrd collected three catches for 19 yards in his Chicago debut.

Jadeveon Clowney, DE, Browns: Clowney had four tackles, two solo and one for loss, in his debut with Cleveland.

Chris Lammons, DB, Chiefs: Lammons collected a pair of tackles for Kansas City.

Bryan Edwards, WR, Raiders: Edwards had four catches for 81 yards, good for second on the team, for Las Vegas.

D.J. Wonnum, DL, Vikings: Wonnum collected a pair of tackles, one solo, for Minnesota.

Melvin Ingram, DL, Steelers: Ingram registered a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit, and a pass defensed in his Pittsburgh debut.
