The Gamecocks improved to 4-0 with a shutout win over Appalachian State Tuesday evening. If today's expected bad weather doesn't interfere, Carolina will play their fifth game in six days this afternoon when they host the Winthrop Eagles.
The Eagles are 4-0 after beginning their season with a sweep in a four game series with La Salle University. South Carolina leads the overall series with Winthrop 15-7 and the Gamecocks and the Eagles have only met twice since 1999. The Gamecocks won a 2010 game against Winthrop, but lost last year's game to the Eagles in extra innings in Columbia.
