The South Carolina Gamecocks are headed to New York City on December 12. Their opponent: the Seton Hall Pirates, as part of a doubleheader with Auburn and Boston College at Madison Square Garden, as reported by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.
Seton Hall is coming off one of their most successful seasons in program history. Coached by six-year head man Kevin Willard, the Pirates were 25-9 in 2015-16 (12-6 in Big East play) en route to a conference tournament title, their first since 1992-93 as a member of the old Big East. They fell to the Gonzaga Bulldogs, 68-52, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, their 10th tournament appearance and first in 23 seasons.
The meeting with the Pirates is the first since January 26, 1974. The Gamecocks won that contest by a score of 75-74, which was also held in New York. It's their first game in the city since January 3, 2015, when they defeated then-#9 Iowa State 64-60 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. They are also set to return to Barclays Center to take on Syracuse in December; the date of that game is TBA.
