Hopefully this South Carolina Gamecocks' cookout and pool party becomes an annual occurrence as the recruits keep coming in: Jordan Smith, a four-star defensive end out of Lithonia, GA, announced his commitment to the Gamecocks this afternoon at his high school. Smith is the third four-star recruit in South Carolina's 2016 class (along with P.J. Blue, Marlon Character and Bryan Edwards) and joins Character as the program's second four-star recruit to commit to the Gamecocks since the inaugural invite-only pool party and cookout bash. In all, the program has picked up a total of five new 2016 commitments since last Friday.
Smith, who had conference foes Florida and Georgia and in-state rival Clemson as his other three schools in his top four, heavily favored the Gamecocks upon leaving last Friday's visit to Columbia, and it seems as though that visit was all that he needed to make a decision. His Friday visit was his second to Columbia this summer, as he also attended the two-day Gamecock showcase earlier in June.
The 6'5", 200 pound Smith is listed as the 24th ranked weakside defensive end in the nation and the 25th best player in the state of Georgia for his class by 247Sports. He joins Cecil Stallings as the second defensive end to commit to the Gamecocks this month. We'll keep you posted if more attendees of the pool party make their commitment to the Gamecocks in the coming days and weeks.
Here's a taste of what to expect from Smith from his highlight video, which is below.
