Star 2017 back Anthony McFarland puts South Carolina in top 10; Tancey Richardson update

A top name from the crop of rising seniors has narrowed his list.

Anthony McFarland

It might be a long shot for South Carolina to land Maryland product and highly-ranked all-purpose back Anthony McFarland. However, the 2017 recruit came out with a top 10, and the Gamecocks landed on the list.

McFarland, no relation to the former LSU standout of the same name, was down at Alabama last week on an unofficial visit. There hasn’t been much in the way of interest from either side that we’ve seen as of late, but it’s good to see that the Gamecocks at least have a shot. Projections from 247Sports have the Tide, Maryland and Miami (Fla.) out in front right now. As far as backs right now, Kyshawn Bryan is the only one that has committed from this class, and there are five other offers out.

Tancey Richardson has not committed

On Sunday, in-state ATH Tancey Richardson tweeted that he had committed to South Carolina. That tweet was deleted on Monday as it appeared that the staff didn’t accept the commitment. Late Monday, Richardson announced that the school had confirmed that scenario. Not surprising, as three other players from the secondary had committed to the program on Friday and Saturday, so it appears that the spot that Richardson thought he could fill is gone. Though he will keep his options open, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him not end up here when it’s all said and done. Keep an eye on Ole Miss, where Richardson’s brother, Rasool Clemons, re-committed to over the weekend.
