South Carolina added a piece to their defensive line as they gained a commitment from Independence (Kan.) CC tackle Dantrell Barkley. Barkley, a 6’4”, 285-pounder, will join the Gamecocks in the 2018 season.
Barkley, a graduate of A.L. Brown High School near Charlotte, was offered by the Gamecocks back in February. He camped at Carolina a few weeks ago and declared the program as his favorite. Because he was a redshirt last year at Independence, we don’t have any numbers for him at the college level, but he did record 57 tackles and six sacks as a senior at A.L. Brown in 2015.
With Barkley’s pledge, the Gamecocks now have a total of ten commits in the class of 2018. Barkley joins Dakereon Joyner, who committed to the program on Sunday. He is the third defensive player thus far in the class, joining in-state safety R.J. Roderick and Georgia tackle Lamarius Benson.
