The South Carolina Gamecocks found themselves in yet another ugly game, but they were able to out duel the Ole Miss Rebels 65-46 and move to 6-0 in SEC play.
The Gamecocks weren’t at their best on Thursday night, but benefited from a strong rebounding night and timely defensive plays to keep the Rebels at bay. Ole Miss were held scoreless for a number of three-plus minute stretches and were beaten 41-31 on the glass (12-5 on the offensive boards). But despite the offensive flow dragging at times, the Gamecocks were able to make more of their opportunities to get the win, pulling away in the 4th quarter thanks in part to a 7-0 run and a Rebels scoreless stretch that spanned over five minutes.
Alaina Coates led the way with yet another double-double - 15 points and 15 rebounds. Kaela Davis chipped in 14 and Allisha Gray scored 11 as the Gamecocks navigated with a recovering A’ja Wilson back in the lineup.Wilson only played 15 minutes and scored six points on 3-5 shooting in her first game since suffering an ankle injury against Florida on January 8.
With the win, the Gamecocks set up a potential Top 5 showdown against #4 Mississippi State at Colonial Life Arena on Monday night. That one will tip at 7pm on ESPN2.
