Demetrius Henry commits to Frank Martin and South Carolina

Four star PF prospect chooses Gamecocks over Hurricanes.

USA TODAY Sports

The Gamecock basketball team has added yet another new face in the way of Demetrius Henry, a 6'8" power forward from Fort Lauderdale, FL. 247Sports' composite rating system lists him as a four star prospect, the 24th highest-rated at his position. Henry makes the seventh commitment of the Gamecocks 2013 class. Toss in Ty Johnson transferring in from Villanova, and you have eight (!) new faces.

The big takeaway from all this is, once again, Martin's ability to recruit. Henry's list was down to two schools, the other being Miami—a program coming off a huge year located virtually in his backyard. Why does a player decide to go with a rebuilding SEC squad two states away instead of the reigning ACC Champ?

The Frank effect, ladies and gentlemen. Look for a mass exodus of current Gamecocks in the upcoming weeks. One is left to wonder how many players not named Bruce Ellington and Michael Carrera are locks for the 2013-14 roster.
