Gamecocks.com: Top Moments of the Spurrier Era - #8. In case you missed No. 9 it is here. Also - Coach Dawn Staley and freshman A'ja Wilson talk about winning gold at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships.
WaPo: Spurrier confident Gamecocks will continue success [AP article].
GoGamecocks: I'm not sure what the HBC gains by getting snarky about the Aggies' schedule - Spurrier not wowed by Texas A&M scheduling. It will take years of intensive couples therapy to unpack all the angst that exists between UT and TAMU. Even if it is the Aggies who are demurring these days on renewing the rivalry, we would be best served by publicly supporting our conference mate while otherwise keeping our noses out of it.
LOHD: Speaking of the favorite son of Science Hill H.S., here is the trailer for the upcoming SEC Storied series -"The Believer." More tribute to You Know Who.
Post & Courier: Gamecocks kicker Elliott Fry doesn't want to miss his 'one shot'.
Greenville News: Nick Jones may be ready for takeoff at USC.
Gamecock Cereal: Nosovitch, Cooper trying to make the switch.
The Big Spur: Good Q&A with South Carolina recruiting coordinator Steve Spurrier Jr. - including some discussion of emerging WRs, special teams and other topics.
FoxSports: Top 10: Star defensive coordinators ready to become head coaches. It's not just that Whammy is No. 8; it's that Brent Venables is No. 4. Now, Venables is a decent coach. That being said, Clemson continues to benefit from waaay better press than it deserves. As you look down this list, remember not only did we whip Venables, but we also smoked Wisconsin's Dave Aranda (No. 5), and just obliterated both Arkansas' Rob Smith and MSU's Geoff Collins (co-No. 10's). Give the HBC some credit for that, but also recall Whammy's 2013 unit finished 11th in total defense - only behind Pruitt's FSU, Smart's Bama and Narduzzi's Spartans, who are 3, 2 and 1 - and IIRC held all opponents under their Offensive season-averages. Conclusion? Ward should have at least received the fourth slot on this ranking.
ESPN SEC Blog: Alex Scarborough looks back at how Dylan played against Missouri (paragraph 3). I think Spurrier said recently he has no idea how we won that game. But for the costly turnovers, we should have won in regulation.
Gamecock Pride: Men's Soccer Schedule: Theme Nights.
The Rubber Chickens: Buckshots: 2008 Gamecock Flashback. Remembering one of the worst three-game stretches ever; I had excised the '08 Florida game completely from my memory.
SI.com: Mike Davis is # 26 on The Top 50 College Football Players for 2014.
SCNow.com: Dillon's Blue to attend Georgia Prep. I think we should be ashamed at how Blue - our first pledge for the 2014 class, who never wavered the whole time - got crapped on. I hope somehow, someway, we can make it up to this young man.
NFL Nation: 49ers Camp Report: Day 15 - a little blurb saying Latti is looking good in practice.
GoUpstate.com: USC running back Davis carries bulky expectations (from the 11th).
CBS Sports: Texas A&M LB Shaan Washington (collarbone) out 4-6 weeks (from the 12th).
Awful Announcing: Colin Cowherd implies southern culture to blame for Tony Stewart-Kevin Ward accident? (from the 12th). Oh yeah - we Southerners are to blame for the Indiana guy killing the New York guy at a dirt track race in the Empire State. Read the whole thing which utterly destroys Cowherd's thesis. Unfortunately, Cowherd decided yesterday to continue doubling down against "Southern Culture" (around the 14:00 min mark) with the moronically stupid statement "it doesn't matter where Tony Stewart is from" while admitting he knows zip about motor sports. That is high-caliber trolling served up WWL-style. Unfortunately, it is the same sort of anti-Southern bigotry that rampant throughout the SB Nation commentariat - particularly on EDSBS.
