Will Muschamp and the Gamecocks got some very good news from one of the top safety in the country. Hamsah Nasirildeen, a versatile defender that has played at safety and linebacker in high school, committed to the Gamecocks today while on campus for a visit. He becomes the program’s 19th pledge in the class of 2017 and is now its highest-ranked recruit thus far.

Nasirildeen, who stands at 6’3” and 210 pounds, was on campus for an unofficial visit with Muschamp and the staff today. Although he had not indicated a timeline for an exact decision, he was impressed enough to give his commitment today and shut down his recruitment for now. Florida and Florida State were the other primary contenders for Nasirildeen’s services.

The defense (especially the backfield) has been a priority for Muschamp practically from the moment he was brought on board at South Carolina. So far, it appears that his aggressive recruiting at the position has paid off. Along with Nasirildeen, the Gamecocks have a strong chance of landing elite cornerback Jamyest Williams when the Georgia product commits a week from Saturday. They are also in the lead for DE Brad Johnson and, looking forward to next year, 2018 end Xavier Thomas. Landing athletes like Nasirildeen give the Gamecocks a great deal of momentum as they progress through this recruiting cycle.
