For the first time ever — for ANY school in the Palmetto State — South Carolina will take their talents to Phoenix following a 77-70 victory over the Florida Gators in the East Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament.
The dust still hasn’t settled on what has been an absolutely crazy weekend for Gamecocks basketball. The 20-point win over the Baylor Bears Friday night in the Sweet 16 wasn’t enough, South Carolina just had to possibly accomplish the greatest feat in the history of the athletics program.
However we’re not here debate the size of accomplishments, we’re here to watch Twitter go nuts on a historic night. Mark my words Gamecock fans, this will be a night you’ll tell as you bounce your grand kids on your knee — and what better way to remember it than outrageous tweets sent out by emotionally ravaged fans?
Here’s the best of what happened Sunday afternoon:
Sindarius Thornwell is better at basketball then you and I

Sindarius Thornwell's 103 pts are the 6th-most an SEC player has scored in an NCAA Tournament. He's 27 away from Corliss Williamson's record pic.twitter.com/gHfdowu59r

Famous people taking notice
I can't believe "North Carolina vs. South Carolina" is actually in play as an NCAA title game.

Congratulations to Coach @FrankMartin_SC of the South Carolina Gamecocks for taking his team to the final four!

.@FrankMartin_SC, the son of Cuban immigrants, former high school teacher & club bouncer, has taken South Carolina to the Final 4. Beautiful

as @getnickwright points out, an elite eight at k-state and a final four at south carolina is legit hall of fame stuff.

Interesting tidbit on Frank Martin by Nick Wright and Bomani Jones
And finally, how can any of us forget this gem?
South Carolina is the worst 7 seed in NCAA Tournament history

Of all the cold takes that have ever been taken, is this the coldest of them all?
