It’s The Final Cockdown’s Running Backs week! We go down the depth chart and take a look at who will have a shot at carrying the ball out of the backfield in 2017. If you missed the others, here’s their links below with a preview of what’s to come this week:
Rico Dowdle | AJ Turner | Ty’son Williams | Mon Denson | Caleb Kinlaw | CJ Freeman
#34 Mon Denson
RS Sophomore / 5’10’’ / 205 / LaGrange, Ga. / LaGrange
Mon Denson didn’t have to go to South Carolina out of high school. The three-star prospect probably had a better chance of starting at one of the smaller schools which recruited him like Georgia State, Iowa State or UAB. But instead he opted for the Gamecocks, joining the roster in 2015.
After being redshirted his first year on campus, Denson struggled with injury issues throughout fall camp and never made it out of the reserves. He never saw game action in 2016, not even against Western Carolina or UMass.
Now, Denson is looking at stiff competition just to make it into the rotation. With AJ Turner and Rico Dowdle already established play makers and Ty’son Williams’ eye-popping spring game — barring injuries to the latter three backs Denson could be looking at the fourth spot at best in the rotation.
Denson’s 2016 stats: 0 carries, 0 yards, 0 TDs
Recruitment: Three-star recruit; North Carolina, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Georgia State, Iowa State, NC State, Tennessee, UAB, Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Indiana and South Carolina. Committed to SC on May 28, 2015.

Up next: Caleb Kinlaw, the Wisconsin transfer who could be a real wild card in the running back rotation this fall.
