The South Carolina Gamecocks’ first of ten NCAA allotted summer football camps is set to begin later this morning. This will be the coaches’ first opportunity to get hands-on work in with several priority targets and also some lesser-known quantities vying for scholarship offers.
Here is a look at the recruits who have confirmed they will be in attendance, organized by graduating year.
JUCO (2018)
Jabari Ellis | DT | Georgia Military College
Ellis will be sitting out of on-the-field drills but will be in Columbia to talk with coaches and tour the campus. Per SECCountry, he plans to make another round of visits later this month to South Carolina, NC State and possibly a few others.
Ellis currently has offers from USC, East Carolina, NC State and Miami.
Class of 2018
RJ Roderick | S | Cane Bay (SC)
Roderick was thought to be ready to commit to the Gamecocks in May before his recruiting blew up and he announced he would be delaying his decision. A high school quarterback, he is being recruited by USC as a safety, but has offers from other schools as a quarterback and running back. Clemson has yet to offer, but has also shown interest in him as a running back.
Roderick plans to make his decision by the end of the summer, after completing his camp circuit. His choice will likely come down to what position he wants to play and if South Carolina coaches can maintain their strong relationship with him.
Trajan Jeffcoat | DE | Irmo (SC)
Jeffcoat, along with his Irmo teammate Kentrell Flowers, burst onto the recruiting scene late in May after putting in standout performances at the EPT Showcase. He will be looking to impress coaches enough to walk away with an offer. If he does, do not be surprised if Jeffcoat soon becomes the Gamecock’s next 2018 commit.
He currently has offers from Missouri, East Carolina, Appalachian State, Colorado State and Georgia State. Miami and Notre Dame have displayed interest but have yet to extend an official offer.
Sam James | WR | Richmond Hill (GA)
James is making a return trip to Columbia after already camping once there following his sophomore season. Coverage of his recruitment has been fairly quiet, but should pick up considerably throughout the summer.
Apart from USC, the three-star receiver currently has ten other suitors, highlighted by offers from West Virginia, Louisville, Maryland and Georgia Tech.
Class of 2019
Kendrell Flowers | RB | Irmo (SC)
As mentioned above, Flowers made quite the impression at the EPT Showcase, where he walked away with running back MVP honors. He played receiver his freshman year, so he is a relatively unknown quantity at running back in the recruiting world.
Flowers will by vying for his first offer today in Columbia. If he earns one, look for a slew of D1 schools to follow suit.
Storm Duck | CB | Boiling Springs (SC)
Duck will be playing with the hopes to earn his first college offer today at South Carolina. Defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson has told him a strong performance could very well lead to one.
Jeremiah Gray | S | Charlotte Christian (NC)
Gray earned a scholarship offer after impressing Will Muschamp at the Nike and Rivals camps in early May. He currently has six offers to his name, headed by Penn State, who is probably USC’s biggest contender at this point in the process.
His other offers are from Brigham Young, East Carolina, Purdue and Wake Forest.
Quendarius Jefferson | WR | Hillcrest (SC)
Jefferson is returning to USC after earning an offer at the Spurs Up Day event earlier this spring. At this time he has one other offer from Maryland.
Class of 2020
Luke Doty | PRO QB | Myrtle Beach (SC)
Doty was another standout performer at the EPT Showcase and was named quarterback MVP of the competition. His only offer at the moment is from Coastal Carolina, but that should change sooner rather than later.
Do not be surprised if this rising sophomore leaves today with an offer from the Gamecocks.
Antonio Barber | WR | Rock Hill (SC)
Barber will be looking to earn his first round of offers through strong camp performances this summer. A two-sport athlete, he also plays basketball for Rock Hill.
Florida, Georgia State and Clemson are among the schools showing interest but have yet to extend offers.
Griffin Brewster | PRO QB | Darlington School (GA)
Brewster is another relatively unknown quantity that will be hoping to earn his first slew of offers this summer. Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina are the schools that have shown interest thus far.
Alex Huntley | DT | Hammond School (SC)
South Carolina is Huntley’s lone offer as of right now, but that is likely to change this summer as he attends Clemson and Alabama camps later this month. It is no surprise that the Gamecocks are ahead of the curve here, as Huntley is teammates with Muschamp’s son, Jackson, at Hammond School in Columbia.
Jordon Simmons | RB | McEachern (GA)
Simmons will be visiting USC for the first time today since receiving an offer last month. This is one to keep an eye on, as another South Carolina - Georgia battle looks to be taking shaping. The Bulldogs are the only other college to extend Simmons an early offer, and both schools plan to remain a major factor throughout his recruiting process.
