Bruce Ellington released from San Francisco 49ers

The former Gamecocks WR was heading in to his fourth year with the team before being waived

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that USC fan favorite Bruce Ellington would be released from the franchise after spending three years with the squad.

Ellington was a 4th round pick in 2014 after forgoing his senior season at South Carolina. Over the last three years, he had appeared in 19 games for the team (managing only 19 catches for 219 yards and two touchdowns), but was on injury reserve for all of the 2016 season. He dealt with smaller injuries like ankle sprains and hamstring sprains that would sideline him for much of his time in the Bay Area. However, after missing all of last year with a hamstring tear, it’s assumed the 49ers didn’t want to risk the chance of him getting injured again.

It’s disappointing to see a former Gamecock get released, but all of us at GABA hope to see him on another NFL team soon.
