South Carolina vs. Cornell: Weekend Preview

SEC play begins next weekend.

Fresh off a way-too-nerve-wracking extra innings victory against Furman and then forced indoors by rain and unable to play Boston College, the South Carolina Gamecocks return to a hopefully less soggy diamond this weekend as they host the Big Red of Cornell.

The Ivy Leaguers come to Columbia with a 1-5 record, having been swept by Duke and then avoiding another sweep from Niagara (Va.) to get their first victory last weekend.

South Carolina will stick with the pitching rotation it used against Clemson last weekend, sending Carmen Mlodzinski (1-1, 3.15 ERA, 20.0 IP, 17 SO) to the mound on Friday followed by Thomas Farr (2-0, 2.79 ERA, 9.2 IP, 8 SO) and Brannon Jordan (1-0, 1.69 ERA, 16.0 IP, 22 SO) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Cornell will counter with senior right-hander Colby Wyatt (0-2, 6.75 ERA, 9.1 IP, 10 SO), freshman lefty Spencer Edwards (0-2, 3.38 ERA, 8.0 IP, 11 SO), and senior right-hander John Natoli (1-0, 0.82 ERA, 11.0 IP, 13 SO).

This is the final tune-up series before SEC play begins, so hopefully the Gamecocks can work out some kinks and get on a roll.

Game 1: 4 p.m., Founders Park

Game 2:. 4 p.m.

Game 3: 1 p.m.
