After a season that was cut short by COVID-19, junior right-handed pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski was drafted on Wednesday night, picked by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the supplemental first round of the 2020 MLB Draft.
Mlodzinski had been South Carolina’s Friday night starter, a role that will likely be handled by someone else next season, as his signing bonus is more than $2 million. During the brief 2020 season, Mlodzinski recorded a 2.84 ERA, with a 2-1 record in four games. He pitched a total of 25.1 innings and tallied 22 strikeouts while allowing just 25 hits.
