The South Carolina Gamecocks lost an incoming safety with Marlon Character's decision to flip to the Auburn Tigers. However, last night, they gained a defensive end last night as Homewood (Ala.) two-star recruit Griffin Gentry tweeted that he had flipped from Troy to play for the Gamecocks.
Gentry told The Big Spur earlier that "playing in the SEC had always been a dream" of his and that it "just felt right". The Gamecocks offered late last month, and after weighing his options, he gave the news to the staff late last evening. Kirk Botkin was his primary recruiter.
Along with South Carolina, Gentry held offers from other Sun Belt schools like Appalachian State, Louisiana-Lafayette and South Alabama, along with his hometown Samford from the FCS. Conference USA's Middle Tennessee State also extended an offer.
With Gentry's commitment, the Gamecocks currently have sixteen players in the fold from the class of 2016.
