South Carolina beat CSU Bakersfield Saturday night to stay perfect in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown and on the season.
The Gamecocks scored the first points of the game against the Roadrunners and never gave up the lead. They led 27-14 at the end of the first quarter and while a weaker second quarter let the Roadrunners cut into the lead, the Gamecocks were still up 45-37 at the half. Things held steady in the third quarter as the Gamecocks ended the quarter up 64-57. After the Roadrunners pulled within 5 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, South Carolina finally started to pull away. Midway through the 4th they stretched the lead out to double digits and were able to hold CSUB scoreless for several minutes to stifle any attempt at a comeback.
A'ja Wilson led the Gamecocks in scoring with 26 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Bianca Cuevas was next in scoring with 20 points, followed by Tiffany Mitchell with 13.
The Gamecocks return to action Sunday at 10 p.m. against Hawaii in the final game of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.
