That's a good move for Vandy.
Not sure if Malzahn will take it.
Paige's sparking personality is intoxicating; her beauty breathtaking; her intellectual prowess incomprehensible to mortals. Her radiance...her luster...drive men mad. Her omnipotence dangerous, yet alluring. It is her power that ensures gravity remains constant; her genius that inspires. She is not only responsible for the Earth's rotation, but may cure what ails the heart with a glance. I am Paige's pool boy...a serf to her ladyship. I am at her beck and call. I bow to her. I am not worthy. War Eagle.

I like that move for Vandy, too.
I’ve always thought that what they need is a coach with an innovative offense that could help them neutralize the athletic differential they’re working against. Malzahn might give them that, at least as long as they find a good S & C coach to help them keep their players fit enough to run the hurry-up.
I do find it hard to believe Vandy is willing to pay that much or that Malzahn is willing to take the job when better ones are probably available to him. I think he could win some games there, but he might just as well end up floundering like his predecessors and thus shortcircuiting his young career.

Have to chew on that
if Malzahn flubs at Vandy will he hurt his chances to be a HC later? I’m not sure. With the Frank Broyles award on his shelf, and the Auburn Tigers in the National Championship Game, he’s already proven he’s a top commodity. There’s no reason why Vandy can’t have some success … the East is still pretty wide open, and maybe he can catch lighting in a bottle the way that Gary Barnett did at Northwestern or Jim Harbaugh at Stanford (albeit in admittedly easier conferences than the SEC).
If he is even moderately successful at Vandy (a couple of 7 win seasons), he’ll be a “hot” commodity for future openings. If not, he’ll be a top OC.

I'm not saying I don't think he can win some games at Vandy.
I’m just saying that if he doesn’t, which is probably more likely than that he does, he’ll hurt future coaching opportunities, which is why I think he might be worried about taking the position. If you don’t believe that, take Brad Scott for example. Scott was a star coordinator at FSU under Bowden. However, he’ll never live down his failures at USC. Search committees have short memories.
Of course, if G. M. were to make a bowl game or two at Vandy, he might make his career, so it works both ways, I guess. If he wants to prove himself, this is a great challenge. And of course the money sounds good. Honestly, Malzahn at Vandy is scary thought. Like I said, I think a guy like him could neutralize Vandy’s talent disadvantages.

Word is Malzahn turned them down..
Wondering if he’s regretting it now that Muschamp is headed to UF…or will he join Muschamp at UF to get a few more years of experience—and then turn that into a better head coaching gig?

Muschamp?
Not sure—definitely did not think UF would go with an assistant. Wondering how many HC’s turned them down—or did they even talk to Mullen, Petrino, Stoops, etc?
That one definitely came out of left field.
