19 days ago: South Carolina's Sam Muldrow (44) blocks the shot of Clemson's Demontez Stitt (2) during the first half of their NCAA college basketball game Sunday Dec. 5, 2010 in Columbia, S.C. (AP Photo/Mary Ann Chastain)

Carolina will be looking for a little revenge tonight after the Terriers beat us last season. You can chat here about the game.It isn't on TV as far as I know.

A few key national rankings for the 'Cocks going into this one

Blocks per game: 31st

Carolina continues to block shots well with Sam Muldrow in the middle.

TO Margin: 106th

Not a good ranking for a coach that emphasizes TO margin, but hopefully we'll improve as Bruce Ellington and Brian Richardson mature. It's hard to excel in this department when your backcourt is so young.

Rebound Margin: 50th

Not bad considering expectations. We've still struggled here at times, though.

Ugly game so far from the looks of the stat sheet.

10-6 ’Cocks eight minutes into the first half.

I saw Michigan State has taken a bit of a nose dive.

7-3, and they only beat Oakland by one point today. I’ve never even heard of that school. I guess all three of their losses were against pretty good teams, but it’s still not a good start.

stuff 'bout stuff.

I noticed that, too.

That might explain why our young team was able to hang somewhat closely with such a highly ranked team.

We’ll get another idea of how we measure up to the best when we play Ohio St. Luckily, I’m not sure that the SEC has any teams that are that good. Maybe Tennessee or Kentucky.

Lots of turnovers...

…but man, sounds like our frontcourt is eating Wofford ALIVE. Very good to see with this team.

by RumblinFish on Dec 11, 2025 7:41 PM EST reply actions

Yep.

That’s exactly what just jumped out at me about the box score. Seems like we’re getting Muldrow, Harris, and Slawson some opportunities to score inside. Granted, Wofford doesn’t have anyone taller than 6’6 playing, but still.

Man, turnovers seem to be really hurting us in this game.

I guess that’s what happens when you have a freshman PG.

Sounds like the officiating is terrible, too.

We’ve had two guys T’d up for complaining about getting called for cheap fouls. Yet again, another youthful mistake. Gotta keep your mouth shut no matter how bad the refs are.

by RumblinFish on Dec 11, 2025 8:33 PM EST reply actions

Normally I don't gripe about refs...

…but this seems ridiculous. Our team is not one that gets into foul trouble easily, but Galloway fouled out, Ellington (!) almost had 4 before they changed their minds on a T, Richardson has 4, and there have been technicals galore for both sides. I’m not sure what this crew is smoking.

Keep in mind that Wofford made the NCAA's last year

And pushed Wisconsin to the brink. This is a good program…so this would be a good win if we can hold on.

I don't think they're as good this year as last year...

But yeah, a decent mid-major program.

According to Demetra...

This “might be the best 6 loss non-conference (assuming he means major conference) team in the country”.

Do what?

Is that like saying that your pig is the prettiest looking pig? Its still a PIG! Or that we were the best 0-11 team in ’99? We were still 0-11!

But yes, they’re solid—just thought that was a stupid quote. His point did come through, however; that they’re not as bad as their record might indicate.

by theodometer on Dec 11, 2025 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

It was a stupid way to put it, but he has a point.

Their schedule has been brutal, and they’ve suffered some close losses. Watch for them to start winning lots of games when conference play starts.

Gamecocks win! 64-53

After what happened last year with Wofford, I’ll take this all day long. Ugly, UGLY game though.

by RumblinFish on Dec 11, 2025 8:49 PM EST reply actions

We finished well. I'm pleased with the win.

We’ve got to improve our TO margin, though, if we’re going to do push for the NCAAs this year.

Yeah, we easily could have folded and let them get the better of us.

But we managed to buckle down and hang on for the win. You’re right about the TOs, though; Ellington, in particular, tries to be a bit too ambitious at times.
