As recently as yesterday, Quinton Powell was listing a top three of South Carolina, Southern Cal, and Oregon. By Tuesday evening, that had changed. Powell now says that his college choice will be between Southern Cal and Florida, the school to whom he originally made a verbal commitment.
With rumors of current Florida commit James Hearns looking a like a potential non-qualifier, Powell might see a bit of an easier path to playing time than he did when he decommitted. The 204th overall prospect in the 2013 class according to 247Sports will no longer take the official visit to Columbia that he had previously scheduled for this weekend.
With this news, Skai Moore, Yannick Ngakoue, and Jonathan Walton are the three linebackers remaining on South Carolina's board for the 2013 class. The Gamecocks have three additional spots to fill and would likely feel quite good about where they stand if they could bring in two out of those three while bringing in Immokalee, FL defensive tackle Deadrin Senat to round out the class.
I inadvertently omitted Senat from yesterday's rundown of remaining uncommitted 2013 prospects, but he's someone that the staff is said to consider a take at this time (perhaps pending new line coach Deke Adams' okay) and compared favorably to the stout, run-stuffing Byron Jerideau.
