#73 Summie Carlay
Freshman / 6’5” / 270 / Laurens, S.C. / Laurens
From the outset, Summie Carlay looks like a basketball post player in the D-2 ranks. It’s not meant to be an insult, but Carlay is a lean offensive tackle at 270 pounds. That’s because he wasn’t always a tackle, as a matter of fact he was far from it at the beginning of his prep career.
In a story by Ben Breiner of The State, Carlay started his career as a quarterback. But he decided he liked hitting more than he did being hit, so then he made the transition to tight end. But as he got bigger, tight end turned to defensive end and defensive end turned to offensive tackle.
Carlay went on to be one of the key early enrollees this spring where he got some key reps at tackle. With a little more time in the weight room, Carlay could fill out that frame and become a key player in the coming seasons.
Select Highlight: Carlay’s junior season showcases a ton of prep talent, to which Carlay lays waste to many.
