Pickens, out of in-state T.L. Hanna, is ranked the top prospect in South Carolina by 247Sports, which also also rates him as the 14th best player nationally. The defensive end is 25th on ESPN’s Top 300 list for the Class of 2019 as well.
In addition to the Gamecocks, Pickens held offers from Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee, and a slew of other premiere programs. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs were considered the biggest threat to South Carolina, but Pickens decided to stay home.
Pickens is the 12th recruit to join the Gamecocks’ 2019 class, which is ranked fourth in the SEC and seventh nationally in 247Sports’ composite.
