Well, here we are again. After another ugly performance in the 2016 SEC Baseball Tournament, this time being a 10-4 loss to Ole Miss in a game in which they committed five errors, the South Carolina Gamecocks find themselves in a familiar spot: the elimination bracket. They are faced with a win-or-go-home scenario as they take on the Texas A&M Aggies this morning in Hoover.
The Aggies are in the loser's bracket by virtue of their 6-5 loss to Vanderbilt, a game in which Walker Grisanti hit his first collegiate home run in the top of the ninth to help last year's College World Series runner-up to a third-round matchup with the Rebels later today. The winner of the Aggies/Gamecocks matchup lives to see another day, while the loser heads home and awaits their tournament fate. With the teams both sitting in the top five in RPI, they'll be in regionals next weekend and should host regardless of the result, but will be looking to build some momentum heading into the NCAA Tournament. For the Gamecocks, it's a chance to shake off a few of the negative vibes they've had in this city for the last decade by extending their stay in the field for at least one more day.
