Deandre Johnson is a 6'4" 240 pound weakside defensive end out of Miami Southridge HS in Florida. A highly sought after three star recruit, Johnson has 11 collegiate offers under his belt, including South Carolina. His tape reveals an aggressive player who is quick off the snap, and has violent hands to get around the edge. With good speed, Johnson gets to the quarterback efficiently and often. Johnson told us that he models his game after Demarcus Ware, the Denver Broncos' outside linebacker.
As far as his recruiting process goes, Johnson has been hearing from several schools. South Carolina and Clemson (who has yet to offer) have been among those reaching out. However, he is just enjoying things as they come right now.
"As of right now I'm open," he said. "My favorite part (of the process) has been building relationships with all of the coaches and getting the scholarship (offers) I've been wanting."
Johnson is listed as a weakside DE, but wouldn't mind heading over to the strong side.
"I can play either side well," he told us. "I love making big plays."
As far as where he sees his football career taking him, Johnson set the bar high. "I can see my football career taking me places I've never dreamed of, maybe even as an all-time great."
