At the end of today, a fresh batch of Gamecocks will be in the fold for South Carolina football as the early signing period begins. With the early signing period in place, the traditional signing period in February has lost some of its buzz, and as years pass, we’ll see that continue to be the case. Here’s how things stand for Carolina right now:
South Carolina commits with financial aid agreements signed
A pair of commits have financial aid agreements inked: Orange (Ca.) Lutheran quarterback Ryan Hilinski and Murfreesboro (Tenn.) defensive end Joseph Anderson. They will both graduate in December and enroll early.
Could the Gamecocks flip a B1G OL commit?
A situation to watch is taking place right outside of Memphis, Tenn., where Cordova offensive tackle and Indiana pledge Matthew Bedford is considering his options. He’ll either ink with the Hoosiers as planned, or will flip to South Carolina or Mississippi State. Bedford was in Columbia for an official during the South Carolina/Akron game weekend; the Bulldogs hosted him a few days later, while the Hoosiers received his final visit on December 7.
UPDATE, 10:28 a.m.: Bedford ended up sticking with Indiana.
Who’s committed for South Carolina
At last check, all, if not most, of the 2019 class will sign during the early period between Wednesday and Friday. If there are any holdovers, they’ll sign during the late signing period in February.
We’ll update this post with announcements of the new signing class as they come in. We’ll also break any announcements of any signing day commitments right here and on our Twitter account.
