The Final Cockdown: #72, Donnell Stanley

Let's meet another of the contenders for a spot among the starting five O-Guards.

Donnell Stanley
Redshirt Freshman Offensive Guard
6'4" / 336 pounds
Latta (Floydale), S.C.

Recruitment:

4 stars, 10th Overall Offensive Guard, 150th-ranked National Prospect.

-Offers from: Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State, and others.

College Career:

As is customary, Stanley Redshirted his Freshman season with the Gamecocks. While it was rumored that he may have had the opportunity to play as a True Freshman, Stanley injured his wrist and was forced to have surgery which necessitated the decision to sideline him for a year.

2015 Projection:

Coach Shawn Elliot only signed 2 O-Line candidates with the 2014 class (Malik Young the other), but they were good signings for the future of the Gamecocks front line. The fact that Brandon Shell is still around is a HUGE plus for the younger guys looking to fill gaps. Coaches have praised how conditioning has trimmed Stanley down a little bit, but he is still a mound of meat at 339 pounds. Listed as the second-string Center behind Alan Knott, but has experience all over the front five, and could fill in against certain offensive sets, or if (PLEASE NO) the Gamecocks get into injury trouble.

Potpurri:

Stanley is a noted country music aficionado, but he also has a taste for classic movies:

Trivia:

Can you name another Gamecock standout that hailed from Latta HS?
