Go Not Buckeyes!

Aside from that, any strong feelings about any of these games?

Not really. Like you...

I’d like to see OSU’s streak end. The Ole Miss-LSU game is more interesting than I thought it would be, but I guess I should have seen that one coming. I’d say chances are strong that that one will have a zany finish. Other than that…meh. This week’s slate isn’t all that exciting.

Do we want Ole Miss to upset LSU

if we drop to Auburn in Atlanta, we’ll want a 1 loss LSU to go to the BCS assuming a 13-0 Auburn goes to the BCS National Championship game. That would improve our bowl placement.

Of course I’m fully on board that we’re going to beat Cam and Co. The Plainsmen’s “us against the world shtick” is getting very old, very fast. At Track Em Tigers they’re all about how they’re going to lay the wood to Carolina, since Malzahn’s offense has ‘improved’ greatly since early in the season - as if ours has stood still, apparently.

I will say that hearing LSU - the biggest bunch of copycats in the land - playing Sandstorm against Ole Miss made me want to throw up in my mouth a little. It’s bad enough they stole Tiger Rag and Death Valley from Clemson, but the Corndoggers stealing Sandstorm is just so low class it would defy expectations .. except it’s LSU, after all.

Isn't LSU's "Death Valley" a corruption of "Deaf Valley," which was what it was once referred to?

At any rate, I think both schools have used the nickname since the 50s or so. Other than that, I’m with you about them using Sandstorm.

I think you’re right that we want them to win. We’ll likely fall in the bowl pecking order if they miss out on the BCS, unless, say, they lose out and we somehow get ahead of them. That’s probably unlikely, though, unless of course we beat Auburn and get that AQ bid..

Well, research reveals

Tiger Rag

LSU probably had the Tiger Rag first … it was written in New Orleans as a jazz standard and the LSU folks make a pretty good claim to using it before Clemson officially adopted it in 1942

http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/MessageTopic.asp?p=10851893&Pg=2

No source I came across, however, says exactly when LSU made it a standard, nor whether Clemson was using it prior to 42. Auburn, Missouri and Princeton apparently play versions.

Death Valley

Memorial Stadium was built in 41-42 and expanded over the years. Lore says that in 1948 a Presbyterian College coach lamented having to take his Blue Hose up to “Death Valley.” Frank Howard reinforced the nicknmae in the 50s and we all know about Howard’s Rock qhich was instituted in 66. On Wikipedia, LSU says they started using the name Death Valley around the 50s too, and that Deaf Valley was used in an attempt to distinguish it from Clemson. Sorry, but I ain’t buying that one.

With the benefit of a call on the drive,

and a blatant blown call on the defensive side.

Yeah. Not the only time it happened today.

LSU def. got a favorable call on the unsportsmanlike as the Ole Miss player jumped into the endzone on the TD. Then, LSU’s Ridley celebrated on his TD and got no flag. You think Mike Slive wants LSU to get that second BCS spot?

Diving unnecessarily into the endzone

is textbook unsportsmanlike. I think it is even used in the officials’ training video.

Well, the ending to the Iowa-OSU game was disappointing, but at least the Nuttster and Masoli are providing some excitement.

What is it about Nutt and LSU? Kind of reminds me of Bobby Johnson and Vandy against us the past few years.

MSU has 21 first-half points against Arkansas.

Why couldn’t we score against those guys?

What happens in the pick'em this week if there are a bunch of ties?

I should've been perfect, but Iowa couldn't handle the refs.

I should have been perfect,

But Nebraska and Texas A&M thought they were the ones playing on a baseball field.

I'm worried about what to do in the case of a tie.

In the future, I’m going to do more games and include a few tough calls from the mid-major ranks.
