Alshon Jeffery Named Finalist For Biletnikoff Award
South Carolina Gamecocks wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (70 rec, 1210 yds, 7 TDs) has been named a finalist for the 2010 Biletnikoff Award, given annually to college football's best receiver. Jeffery is joined by Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon (94 rec, 1560 yds, 17 TDs) and Oklahoma's Ryan Broyles (106 rec, 1309 yds, 12 TDs) as the three finalists for the award. Jeffery leads the SEC in both receptions per game (6.36) and receiving yards per game (110). Congratulations to Alshon, and to everyone at South Carolina who's contributed to his success.

Can we now stop hearing about AJ Green being the best WR in the conference?!
Congrats to Jeffery. He deserves it!

For real. Jeffery has far outperformed A. J. and Julio this season.

Guess it depends on what you look at....
Alshon has 70 catches, 1210 yards and 7 TD’s this season. That makes 17.28 YPC, 6.3 catches per game and 110 YPG.
But if you look at AJ Green, the stat that stands out, in only 7 games this season he has 9 TD’s. but his stat line is otherwise less impressive than Alshon’s. 41 catches, 674 Yards. That makes 16.4 YPC, 5.85 catches per game, and 96.28 YPG.
I think the emergence of Lattimore has probably affected the amount of TD’s for Alshon though. If Lattimore wasn’t such a beast I think Alshon would get the ball more often. I am trying to be devil’s advocate here and AJ will probably gone as Alshon continues to add to his resume this year and next year.

The emergence of Lattimore has definitely affected the TD's for Lattimore.
Alshon has continued to make plenty of big plays, but Lattimore is our go-to guy in the red zone. A. J. Green is that guy for Georgia, hence the big numbers.

"has affected the TD's for Alshon" is what that should say.

exactly
When you get a guy like Lattimore in the program that will run it in from 20+ out, WR TD count will take a hit
by Gamecockrock on Nov 23, 2025 8:25 PM EST up reply actions
I know of at least 2 TD's by Jeffery
that was longer than 50 yards… that tells you right there he has to make big plays happen in order to get in the endzone consistently now with Latti.

This is great news both for Jeffery and the program.
For Jeffery, it’s obvious. But for the program, it’s also big. Having a guy competing for such a prestigious award will be a huge tool on the recruiting front.
I wonder if he has a chance to win it if he tears it up over the next two weeks. Blackmon will be hard to beat.

I think he should be the clearcut favorite for this award
the award is stated to have 2 main critiques, strength of opponents, and off field character. He has faced the #1 team in the nation, went up against one of the best lock-down corners in the nation (Janoris Jenkins), and had one of his best career games against Auburn earlier this year and has a chance to have another impressive game against them come December 4th. As far as off field character, he is one of the best practice guys Coach Spurrier has ever seen, and he is a true team player (all per Spurrier’s mouth)

Yes, and if they really do critique off the field character...
…Blackmon has that nasty little DUI — driving 90 in a 65, with three others in the car. Not to mention he’s underaged.

I think this award is unfortunately Blackmon's to lose.
But I’m so glad Alshon is finally getting his props. He’s been ignored too much in favor of A.J. Green, and I think we all know who the better receiver is at this point. He (Alshon) is going to be the first WR taken in the draft when he goes. I’ll even go so far to say that he’s better than Sidney Rice.

You're right ..
Blackmon’s going to win .. .running away. Like Jeffery, Blackmon is a true Soph so the earliest both are eligible is the 2012 draft (ie, one more season).
It’s hard to say who will be taken first. The biggest difference between seems to be Blackmon’s gaudy numbers. I suspect Gundy’s team just threw to him more than we threw to Alshon.

Yeah. Blackmon has the award wrapped up, most likely.
I would think that Blackmon would have to bomb over the last two weeks and Alshon would have to catch for 150+ per game to win.

Dont forget
off the field character IS an issue at hand. They do take that into consideration.

Oh, dang, I thought Blackmon was a junior for some reason.
In that case, yeah, hard to say who will be taken first between the two. Either way, I’d have to think Alshon is a first-rounder.

College football nation spoke loud and clear in a Gameday poll on facebook
more than 63% of the vote went to alshon, and about 20% went to AJ Green when asked who the best WR in the nation is. Blackmon had a whopping 7% of the vote.

I don't think as many people around the country know who Blackmon is because he hasn't been in the spotlight...
Alshon has gotten a lot of media love for his performances against Alabama, Florida, etc. But that doesn’t change the fact that Blackmon isn’t having a phenomenal year.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see how much the committee considers Blackmon’s DUI an issue. That’s the only way I see Alshon winning it.

Not to say that that isn't fair. If character is an issue...
I’d take Alshon there. He seems like a great kid.

'Atta boy, Alshon.
And ’atta boy, Stephen, Marcus, Pat, TJ, Tori, Hutch, Rok, Garrett, HBC, etc.
I’m guessing he’ll need about 15 catches, 250 yards, and 4 TDs over these last 2 games (which is doable) to best Blackmon. Regardless, a tremendous honor for both he & the entire offense & coaching staff just for him to be a finalist.

I think Blackmon has the stats to win this thing, but . . .
if I were in charge of the award, there’s no way I’d give it to a kid who got a DUI during the season.

if they look at true stats and off field character
Alshon wins it hands down. His stats is with him missing most of 2nd half against UK, and the 2nd half and maybe some of 1st half against Troy. Plus as you say, Alshon is clearly the better WR in terms of off field actions.
