College Career:
After totaling five starts as a true freshman, and starting five more games in his second year, a mid-season shoulder injury in 2012 ended the talented Matulis' sophomore campaign and kept him sidelined for all of 2013. Matulis was back in action during spring practice in 2014 (the first spring ball he'd participated in since arriving on campus, due to injuries), and was slated to start the season at right guard. During fall camp, however, he was sidelined again due to a left knee injury and wouldn't see game action until that October against Furman. He went on to play in the Tennesee game a few weeks later, but was subsequently shutdown for the year, underwent surgery, and missed spring practice while rehabbing.
2015 Outlook:
Coach Spurrier confirmed in May that Matulis would be available for fall practice. If he can stay healthy, he's definitely in the running to compete for a starting position this fall. Thanks to his versatility--he can play tackle or guard--he adds instant depth to a similarly banged up O-line. He's a talented player who deserves to catch a break in the injury department, so here's hoping he doesn't suffer any more setbacks and has a nice long season.
Trivia:
Mike Matulis once maintained an entertaining, but, sadly now-defunct twitter account. Can you recall his twitter handle?
