South Carolina Gamecocks to go with Clarke Schmidt against Ole Miss

The Gamecock will send their ace to the mound Wednesday afternoon against the Rebels.

The Big Spur

In his press conference Monday afternoon, before the team departed for Hoover, Alabama, Chad Holbrook said he wasn't sure if he would start Clarke Schmidt on Wednesday. He reasoned that Schmidt started on short rest against Alabama and didn't have his best stuff. Coach Holbrook also stated that he didn't know if he'd be comfortable starting Schmidt two straight times on short rest.

However, Schmidt said that he wanted the ball and stated that he would be ready to go if the coaches called his number. Well, it looks like Clarke will get the ball tomorrow afternoon.

In his last outing against the Rebels Clarke was dominant over 6.2 innings only allowing 1 run and striking out 6. The Gamecocks will need Clarke to repeat that performance tomorrow against the Rebels of Ole Miss.

Clarke will enter tomorrow's game with a 9-2 record and a 2.72 ERA.
