The Final Cockdown: #33, David Williams

Could 2015's breakout star be the redshirt sophomore from Philly?

Adam Hagy-USA TODAY Sports

David Williams

RS Sophomore RB
6'1'' / 216 lbs
Philadelphia, PA (Imhotep)

Recruitment:
consensus four-star prospect, sixth-ranked APB in nation

Other Major Offers:
Ohio St., Penn St., Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, basically everyone.

College Career:
Despite some debate, Williams would redshirt his freshman season (2013) before taking the field for the Gamecocks in nine games last year. He racked up 256 yards (5.7 avg) and two touchdowns, including a 110-yard game against Furman.

2015 Outlook:
Williams comes out of spring practice as arguably the most intriguing piece to the offensive puzzle that doesn't involve a quarterback contest. Williams is the prohibitive number-two behind Brandon Wilds, and has shown flashes of brilliance as a breakaway runner that could provide a one-two punch in an effort to fill the massive hole left by Mike Davis' departure to the NFL. Williams is a balanced all-purpose player with edge speed that can provide flexibility and depth as a flex option in some of the more intricate sets Spurrier likes to throw out on the field. He could very well be the breakout star of this year's offense.

Trivia:
Imhotep Institute Charter High in Philadelphia has produced a number of great prospects over the past few years. Can you name some more?

Potpurri:
Imhotep was an Egyptian polymath who is largely considered to be the first Architect, Engineer, and Physician in history. Yep. That's what I've got.
