Oversigning - What it Means | Leftover Hot Dog
Flounder directs us to a video that explains oversigning and its impact on a program. There's been a lot of talk about oversigning around the Gamecock blog-o-sphere this year, presumably because we're in real danger of doing so.

Unless you have a subscription you won't be able to read the article. But that's OK because I'm only linking to it so you can check out Drew Owens' sweet afro. It takes a real man to rock that much hair under a helmet.

As I understand it, hunt seat is where USC really excels. It's the western style that we've historically struggled in. And now I have exhausted my equestrian knowledge.

Nice Top 10 Wishlist by Scott Hood
we’ve already made great strides to # 3 (OL depth) as far as I’m concerned … now we have to see what we can get out of our depth chart.
- 4 (No. 21 stays healthy) is going to be a weekly prayer for the next three (dare we dream four?) years.
- (improve secondary). Let’s hope Stephon had a soph. slump. His multiple conference honors - no matter how disappointed we were in his play - are testament that he is an excellent player. Getting Shaq back as the Mike will help settle things down. Nice DBs and S’s in our next class, too.
- (top 10 recruiting class) just doesn’t mean that much to me. Texas and Florida dominated the recruiting ranks for the last three years, and laid huge eggs in 2010. For years and years during the Brad Scott and Lou Holtz eras, Carolina had top 20 recruiting classes but the program produced bupkis. Yes - its all about talent, but except for the top flight guys, the recruiting services (Scout, Rivals, etc) cannot accurately handicap who is going to be great at the FBS level - or even going to be a good team player. Trust the coaches and dont sweat the rankings is my new philosophy.

I think not having Shaq may have really hurt us in pass coverage as well as in the most obvious areas.
He communicated the plays to the rest of the defense, a duty which, I believe, was passed on to Stephon in his absence. We see how that turned out. Communication was one of the biggest problems for our DBs.
And getting a quality recruiting class is a big deal. I don’t mean to be persnickety, but Texas and Florida’s slumps doesn’t say as much about how recruiting influences success as the long string of elite seasons they’ve posted. With a few exceptions like Boise, the teams that stay in the top 10 are the teams that always get great recruiting classes. Recruiting rankings isn’t an exact science, for sure, but it certainly seems to matter.

I like the linebackers' grade, though I might even go so far as to give them an A-.
They really shut down some elite talent at running back. I don’t really consider the spur position a linebacker, but Allen was the best member of that defense in my opinion, with Devin Taylor an extremely close second. I’d only not give the linebackers an A, or A+, ‘cause I remember too many missed sacks, especially on Newton. Other than the sacks, I can’t think of any glaring things they did wrong the whole season. I recall once where Jeffery got beat deep for a touchdown, but I believe he was somehow on their best receiver. It’s hard to blame him for that. All in all, an outstanding job from all of them. Allen needs to become the leader of the secondary in the offseason, and teach the rest of them what they’re doing wrong. Speak up dude, ’cause you obviously have it down.
stuff 'bout stuff.
