Smurf Turf Open Thread: WAC Speed!!!
My preference is obviously for South Carolina to win the SEC. If that is not possible, I want a respectable Gamecock showing against Auburn or Alabama, followed by the SEC West champ acting out the Fight Club scene where Ed Norton walks away from a broken Jared Leto with the simple explanation "I felt like destroying something beautiful." I think that's known in SEC circles as "the full Colt Brennan".
Anyway, football 's on, and you're probably watching it. If you want to chat here, feel free.

I finally pigeon-holed Boise State
They’re a good East Carolina team

It certainly is not a good sign
that they are having to grab on to La Tech’s DE to keep him off of the quarterback. That guy’s no Devin Taylor.

My initial impressions:
Boise State is better than Louisiana Tech.
Boise State may or may not be better than an above average SEC team.

I love that Jared Leto whuppin scene btw
It may or may not be related to the fact that I briefly dated someone who personally knew and swooned over Jared Leto.

That's a great scene.
I’m teaching Fight Club in my freshman writing seminar. This will be my first time to do so; I’m wondering how my students will like it. Surprisingly, most of them haven’t seen it, which makes me feel really old.

What if we got these guys in the Sugar Bowl
I would personally LOVE it.

I'd love it...
But I don’t think it would be anything like UGA-Hawai’i. I don’t agree with the gnashing of teeth regarding them and the national title, but Boise is a good team.

Boise State is unquestionably better than that Hawaii squad,
but they do not look like they could stand up to an SEC slate without multiple losses.
For us to play them in the Sugar Bowl, it would probably require Oregon and either Missouri or Michigan State to go undefeated. If we are in the Sugar Bowl, Boise State is probably in the national title game. I think TCU may be better than Boise State, but the Broncos may be a worse matchup for South Carolina because of their passing attack.

If you're Boise State,
Does playing on Tuesday night help you or hurt you? I say help.

It's their first time on national TV since the VT game,
so I think it helps them. They haven’t looked like a national championship caliber team to me, but I don’t get a vote. The scoreboard will help, and the things I think make them look like a 15-25 team are likely to be overlooked by the masses screaming for them to get in the title game.

I'm ok with Boise playing in a NC game
They look like a good ball club. But, if the majority of college football fans are going to respect them as a legit national contender each year, I believe their next step is to get rid of the blue turf. It did what they wanted: got them noticed. Now, if you want people to believe that you’re a real football team, get rid of the blue field, it’s silly.
Also, for what it’s worth, it also makes watching them play at home absurd. I can’t even see their players on the field on my TV. Cmon.

The Blue Turf is probably the biggest reason I hate Boise St.
What if Oregon trotted out onto the field in standard issue camouflage? It’s the same thing. It gives them an unfair advantage and i hate them for it. They even made their numbers gray this year just to blend in better. Ridiculous.

I think a triple option team should make special "Boise State" road unis
where every player has an oblong, football sized brown leather patch right in the breadbasket.

I'm with you.
I tend to agree that it’s an advantage. (Side note: I would love to hear from a player whose played AGAINST Boise, in Boise. I feel like it would be disorienting).
But, regardless of whether it’s an advantage or not, it’s an absurd concept. At some point, it changes the game. Can we play on a white field? Can we heat the field so it’s really hot? Can the field be made of spaghetti? Absurd examples, I know. But still…

Also...
They currently have a plan for a $100MM expansion. This will get them to 53k seats.

So once they get the ability to make it load in there,
They will basically have numbed 2 of the 5 senses.

Another thing with the blue turf
No line of scrimmage and first down lines? Im assuming that’s bc of the color? What is this, the 80’s?
by SetYourBodyAblaze on Oct 26, 2025 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Totally agree
I won’t watch a Boise game on tv.
As much as they should put in a regular field, BSU will never, ever get rid of the blue turf. To them, it’d be like cutting Samson’s hair. The gimmick is now a tradition, and you’d find it easier to get Ohio State to dump the “Script Ohio” or Clemson to retire Howard’s Rock than to get the Broncos to play on a green field at home.

I don't think the announcers realize the game is still going on
Every time I unmute the game, they are talking about the BCS rankings and resumes.

That La Tech WR did a great job of protecting his quarterback there
I think that is where the last play against UK really hurt us. A more experience WR would have batted that ball to the turf so we could try a FG.
